Indivisible Outer Cape (IOC) is one of 2500+ local, independent, community-based, all volunteer pro-democracy organizations across the country.
We are not aligned with any political party. Everything we do is in support of America’s Democracy, equal rights, dignity for all, and a healthy, sustainable environment.
We are concerned that the current federal government’s actions are hurting our community in these ways:
- Funding cuts to healthcare, social services, the National Park Service and other programs that directly impact the health and wellbeing of Outer Cape residents.
- The threat of brutal and inhumane treatment to our immigrant neighbors, legal US residents and US citizens by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.
- Policies that favor the ultra rich while cutting programs and services for the rest of us.
- Direct threats to democracy itself including voting rights restrictions and efforts to hamper free speech.
The good news is that the American people are powerful when enough of us make our voices heard!
IOC is here to provide our Outer Cape neighbors with actions to protect our democratic rights and our community. Here are some very important actions that you can take right now:
#1: Make three phone calls to stop ICE from its cruel and inhumane actions. Funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which funds ICE runs out on January 30, and the legislation to continue funding requires 60 Senators to vote yes. That means the Democrats have power to rein in ICE. Therefore:
Call our US Senators Ed Markey at 617-565-8519 and Elizabeth Warren at 617-565-3170 and US Representative William Keating at 508-771-6868 and urge them to demand that Democratic Leadership unify their caucuses in NOT voting for the DHS appropriations bill unless it contains real constraints and accountability for ICE and CBP.
#2: Call our State Representative Hadley Luddy at 617-722-2582 and our State Senator Julian Cyr at 617-722-1570 and ask them to do everything in their power to pass the Safe Communities Act, the Dignity not Deportations Act, and the Immigrant Legal Defense Act to help keep Massachusetts residents safer from ICE and CBP agents.
Note, if you’re not an Outer Cape voter, you can click Find My Legislator to get the numbers of your State Legislators, and you can click Find My US Legislators to get the numbers of your US Representative and Senators.
#3: Write postcards with friends every Friday from 10:00 – 12:00 at Prez Hall. Right now we are writing postcards to provide factual news headlines to voters in other states who might otherwise only hear disinformation.
#4: Attend local events and protests such as the following – you will enjoy the heartfelt camaraderie!:
Stay tuned to our newsletter (see below) and our Facebook page for forthcoming details of our “Not My President” protest on February 14.
